Travel abroad is a great motivator and a chance to apply linguistic skills and cultural knowledge, but traditional trips and tours miss out on an opportunity to cultivate enduring understandings. This session approaches building travel itineraries like developing courses, framing activities around essential questions students answer in local contexts around specific themes. It highlights a recent course in France and Belgium on “Environmental Sustainability in the European Context” as well as other courses abroad.
